Socorro Partners welcomes Ian Shapiro

Miami, June 18, 2024 - Ian Shapiro has joined Socorro Partners as an audit partner who will also lead the firm’s Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting Advisory group. A Florida-licensed CPA with over 25 years of experience, he previously served as an assurance partner at BDO USA and nationally co-led its Real Estate & Construction industry group.

Ian’s experience includes providing assurance services to both publicly traded and privately held businesses, including international and Fortune 500 companies in a variety of industries, such as real estate & construction, hospitality, professional services, employee benefit plans, and manufacturing and distribution. He assists companies with accounting and disclosure requirements, has extensive experience working with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) rules and regulations, and has been heavily involved with M&A and a variety of public and private financing transactions. Ian’s technical accounting experience includes revenue recognition, lease accounting, derivative financial instruments, share-based compensation, foreign currency accounting, and consolidation matters.

Ian served as the key relationship partner for several large private equity and publicly held companies and has extensive experience working with senior management and boards of directors. He qualifies as an Audit Committee Financial Expert, as defined by the SEC. Ian has experience serving as an officer and board member on several boards of not-for-profit and professional associations.

Prior to his career in public accounting, Ian worked for the Florida Legislature. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida Atlantic University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Florida State University. Ian has been an instructor at a variety of national and local continuing professional education seminars.
